Áine RyanSTRANGE sightings of St Patrick throwing a man of the cloth into a river near Westport have been reported to The Mayo News. Fortunately it’s nothing more than a drama being played out by the actors for the innovative online soap, ‘Covies’. With the idyllic weather conditions, the patron saint who propelled a priest into the Owenwee last week turned out to be none other than Mayo’s very own green paragon, John Durcan, of Fahy.
Meanwhile, filming for ‘Covies’, the brainchild of Len Collin, will be in the centre of town over the next two days, Wednesday and Thursday, at Bridge Street and the Octagon.
Mr Collin said last night that while large numbers of extras had signed up for the scenes, any more volunteers available will be welcome.
“We plan to be finished filming by the end of the week. While the weather has been brilliant, filming hasn’t always gone smoothly due to the lack of availability of some actors,” said Mr Collin.
He said that he hopes the first episode of the soap will be ready by November.
“The whole idea for this was to promote Westport, and of course the film-makers and let’s hope it does that,” he added.
