BALLINA
A FEMALE in her twenties is in Garda custody following a raid on a premises in Ballina where a large quantity of illegal drugs was recovered.
The Divisional Drugs Unit in Mayo carried out the search of a building in Ballina on Friday evening at 8pm and discovered a large quantity of cocaine and ecstasy worth an estimated €10,000. A Garda spokesman said that a female in her twenties was brought into Garda custody and was helping Gardaí with their inquires. A file is expected to be forwarded to the DPP.
The drug haul is another significant step for the Divisional Drugs Unit based in Ballina, which has made a number of raids and arrests in the north Mayo area. Last December, they made the largest ever drug seizure in the county when drugs worth in the region of €150,000 were found in a private house in Bofeenaun and, last September, they arrested Offaly man, Mark Hoey, who was in possession of €50,000 worth of cocaine in Ballina. Cocaine worth an estimated €15,000 was also seized from a location in Westport last June
