Taoiseach visits Ballina to open schools and visit businesses

An Taoiseach Brian Cowen, TD, is in Ballina this afternoon for a number of engagements. Deputy Cowen was due to visit Carha National School, Bonniconlon to raise their Green Flag at 12 noon before going on to official open St Dymphna’s and St Nicholas’ Special Schools in Ballina.
This afternoon at 2.30pm he will visit the Lionbridge Technologies plant at Emmet Terrace, Ballina before visiting the new Ballina Medical Centre to meet owners, former Dáil deputy Dr Tom Moffatt and his son Sean Moffatt.

Man in hospital after early morning Ballinrobe assault

A man is still in Garda custody in Claremorris after he was arrested following an assault on another man at 3.30am in Ballinrobe this morning.
The row broke out between the two men on Bridge Street and one of the men received head injuries. He was removed to Mayo General Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Connacht GAA open Centre of Excellence in Bekan

Connacht GAA is in celebratory mood today as Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana travels to Mayo to turn the sod on the province’s new €10m Centre of Excellence. Now all sights are set on 2014, when it is planned to have the Centre fully up and running.
When completed, the Centre will feature six floodlit outdoor GAA pitches, a state-of-the-art indoor pitch, gymnasium, and related facilities. There will also be dining facilities and meeting rooms.
