IRMS rejects Corrib assault claims
IRMS, the security company working in north Mayo for Shell, has categorically rejected outright ‘a central conclusion of this report, namely that Mr Willie Corduff was assaulted’. The report in question is one released last week by human rights organisation Front Line, called ‘Breakdown of Trust: Report on the Corrib Gas Dispute’ and one of the conclusions from the report was that prominent Corrib protester Willie Corduff was assaulted by IRMS during a protest at Glengad last April.
IRMS has revealed that, through its legal representatives, it will demand a retraction of any insinuations that IRMS was involved in any assault on Mr Corduff and that barrister, Brian Barrington’s report be amended to include the DPP’s findings.

Mayo VEC impasse resolved
The long-running impasse over the vacancy on the Mayo Vocational Education Committee has been resolved.
Fine Gael’s Gerry Coyle has resigned his seat and will be replaced by Michelle Mulherin. This will satisfy the gender requirements of the body, which had been altered when Cllr Noreen Heston resigned her seat earlier this year.
Fine Gael’s Kevin Guthrie, a former Castlebar town councillor, had been selected by that authority to replace Heston but Mayo VEC CEO Dr Katie Sweeney insisted Guthrie could not take his place on the VEC because Heston had to be replaced by a woman to ensure the body met its gender balance requirements.
However, Fine Gael met in the last week and solved the problem with Gerry Coyle stepping aside, allowing both Michelle Mulherin and Kevin Guthrie to take up their place on the authority.
